This is what’s left of my beloved Borders bookstore at Parramatta, the scene was too upsetting for me- all those relaxing nostalgic moments gone and replaced with closing down sales and signs made me literally sick to my stomach..
“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill” (Barbara Tuchman )
Brief book reviews will be up soon…
Just got back in Sydney two days ago and had class the day after my flight home..
I immensely miss my uncle and aunts- I hope he regains consciousness soon. 20 days with him simply was not enough. Before my trip back home I had half a day before my flight to buy much needed 21st birthday presents for friends and souvenirs for significant others. Pictured above was what I could manage (book/ personal) to bring home with me. It’s not as many as last September’s loot but I’m quite happy nonetheless..
In between taking care of an ill uncle and reading Scarlett Thomas’ Our Tragic Universe (which btw is quite simply existentially driven) I bought soulless-A book somehow related to my fascination to a newly bought game on my iPhone; COD: Zombies. The younger generation in my family have the unfortunate knowledge of my interest in all things weird and undead; let me rephrase ‘I have a huge interest that concerns a lot of slaying and rekilling of the said fictional characters’..
I have high hopes for this book (^__^)
Have I told you that I’m going overseas again? Mum bought me a ticket a couple of days ago and wanted me to spend some time with my uncle in the Philippines. He’s in a coma and is currently in the hospital, I was told that I was to spend the two weeks hauled up in the hospital- which I zealously accepted as I absolutely adore and love my uncle , plus it would allow me finish up on my readings..
Will be bringing these books with me and am hoping to buy more.I’m looking forward to the early morning trip 2mrw =)) Wish me luck..
2011 should be a year for me to widen my vocabulary, with the help of this book.. It’s got a pretty eye-catching book cover too ;-))
Currently reading Shane Worrrell’s debut novel- Tom climbs the fence.
